Our current work involves a produce check, in
order to identify any likely mutations and diseases
that may have affected it during the various produce
pre/post-processing stages, which often lead to changes in the
original produce features.
In addition to the above described survey
techniques, aiming at assessing product quality, another important
goal is to identify the root of the problem and to quantify the
amount of damaged goods.
A prompt detection of anomalies
helps keep the product under correct preservation conditions, in
order to confine the commercial loss likely to occur when goods
unsuitable for sale are put on the market.
A thorough knowledge and understanding of the
physiological changes taking place in the various edible products is
essential. However, in order to conduct these surveys, the surveyor
also has to be experienced and familiar with preservation
techniques, as well as with refrigerated air generation and supply
plants on board of ships and/or inside containers, and in
warehouses. As a matter of fact, in some instances, damage to
produce is caused by faulty and/or incorrectly set refrigeration
equipment.
In addition to the above fields, we have also
acquired a good experience with other product types, such as
wood-pulp, colonial products (groceries) grain, and various seeds.
